Art Summer Camp for Teens in Los Angeles

CultureHub LA is partnering with Korea Daily LA and Maker City LA to host a fun, multidisciplinary art camp for teens this summer. Spark your creativity with mixed media, body & vocal performance, storytelling and more! Classes will be held in both English and Korean.

CLASSES
VOICE IN PERFORMANCE
Instructor: Ann One & Bo Young Kwon

Voice in performance is vocal training along with a deeper study of the vocal instrument. Students will learn about the vocal cords, diaphragms, tongue placement, and more and apply it to create a balance between a beautiful and healthy sound. Utilizing these lessons, the students will sing Korean songs bringing the young musicians to appreciate the culture of Korean arts.

BODY AND LIVE PERFORMANCE
Instructor: Scarlett Kim & Candy Yi

Body and live performance is an immersive acting workshop focusing on body as a tool for imagination. Through a series of physically intensive exercises, students will approach acting as a commitment to presence and kinesthetic response. Students will be proactive authors of their own learning experience, directly engaging with ensemble-driven devising strategies and alternative storytelling methods. The course culminates in self-generated group projects and peer-critique.

TECHNOLOGY FOR STORYTELLING
Instructor: Scarlett Kim

Technology for storytelling is a hands-on laboratory on integrating video in performance. The class begins with an overview of the vibrant contemporary landscape of new media technology, as well as the history of multimedia art. Experimenting with various input/output systems, students will explore strategies of interaction between live action and media mechanisms. Students will conceive and execute an integrated media production through a collaborative final project.

About the Instructors

Voice in Performance

Ann One is a Korean-American soul singer/songwriter/producer from Los Angeles with two critically acclaimed albums in Korea. She has recently returned to KPop with FeelGhoodMusic through her new single, This Ain`t Love. Ann One’s songs have become standards at auditions for vocal majors at universities as well for national TV shows such as "The Voice Korea" and "K-Pop Star" where it was the most used song for auditions in 2016. She has has produced songs for Drunken Tiger JK and Yoonmirae, one of which won the Korean Grammy for the Best R&B Song of 2008.

*Seoul Institute of the Arts’ Applied Music department students Danbi Kim and Chaemi Lee will assist in teaching the Voice in Performance Class.

앤 원 (Ann One) 은 타이거 JK 와 윤미래의 소속사인 필굿뮤직 (Feel Ghood Music) 의 싱 어송 라이터로 2018년 3월 ‘디스 에인트 러브 (This ain’t love)’ 싱글을 발매, 한국과 미국을 오가며 활발한 활동을 하고 있다. 2004년 ‘혼자하는 사랑’을 타이틀곡으로 한 2집 ‘피닉스 라 이징’을 발매하고 2007년 업타운 출신 정연준과 슬로우잼으로 앨범을 낸 후 미국으로 이주, 미국 알앤비 뮤지션 앤더슨 팩 (Anderson Paak), 타이거 JK, 윤미래 등의 앨범에 참여했으며 헐리우드에 위치한 유명 음대인 Musicians Institute의 강사로 학생들을 가르치고 있다. 또한 서울예술대학교가 LA에 설립한 컬쳐허브 LA 스튜디오에서 보컬 클래스를 운영하고 있으며, 한국어 영어에 능통하다.

Bo Young Kwon is a talented vocal trainer who is currently teaching and studying at the Hollywood Musicians Institute. She has performed at many venues and festivals including the FNC Academy Dream Concert.

권보영은 보컬트레이너이자 싱어로 헐리우드에 위치한 Musicians Institute 출신으로 FNC Academy Dream Concert 등 다양한 무대에서 퍼포먼스를 진행했습니다. 현재는 보컬 트레이너로서 학생들을 가르치며 활동 중 입니다.

Body in Performance + Technology for Storytelling

Scarlett Kim has her MFA from CalArts in Directing and her BA in theatre from the University of Chicago. She has presented her work in various places including Chicago, LA, Italy, Edinburgh, and more since 2012 and has joined CultureHub NY in the La MaMa Umbria Next Generation Residency. She presented “The End, The End, The End…” at the Fringe Festival (Edinburgh) and was nominated for the Pushcard Prize with her work “The Koreana Cycle”. Her recent works include Kaspar Kaspar, Hamlet, Surplus novel, Wild Duck, and is fluent in Korean, English, and Spanish.
